The Origin Story
The person behind the company, and how it came to be
I’m Thomas, the proud founder of Chronicle Health.
I believe personal health information is most valuable in the hands of the person it belongs to. The empowered and motivated individual is the person most likely to show interest, understand, and make proper use of it. My mission is to make it easy for people to access and use their own health information.
My path toward founding Chronicle Health began when a family member was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Alongside emotional and practical support, I worked closely with them to understand the condition. Together we found that conversations with AI were a genuinely useful complement to speaking with doctors and reading books. However, we also found that the AI lacked context: relevant family history, genetic results, and other complicating factors were all unknown to it. Our question became: how could we build a comprehensive, well-structured picture of my family member’s health history?
So I set out to see what was possible. I gathered all the relevant health data I could, and then I found by far the most useful piece of the puzzle: the full GP record. It arrived as a massive document including many scanned pages. Over months, I worked through the technical challenges of securely extracting and organising it, including testing and refining the transcription of handwritten clinical notes. The latest language models were invaluable: we were blown away by the quality and utility of the output, producing results that would have been unachievable just six months earlier. The health history we constructed brought deeply meaningful life events back to recollection, and many stories were shared.
Soon after, I made a version for myself, showed it to others, and found that they also wanted something similar. So I began helping to obtain and organise their own records. That’s how Chronicle Health was born!
Why a Sole Operator
I’m currently working alone - that’s a deliberate choice, not a limitation. Your health data is handled by one person, start to finish. There are no teams passing your records around, no handoffs between departments, no unnecessary access. One person sees your data, processes it, delivers it, and deletes it. For data of this sensitivity, I believe it’s a stronger privacy model than most organisations can offer.
I’m not medically trained and I can’t interpret your results or give health advice. What I can do is organise your data carefully, securely, and with respect.
Background
I have over 12 years of experience building and leading teams that turn complex data into clear, trustworthy information. My academic background includes degrees in Systems Engineering and Industrial Ecology (MEng; MSc). I’ve worked across regulated industries, most recently asset management, news publishing, and energy. My roles have spanned hands-on technical work through to product management and engineering leadership, with a particular focus on the data privacy and security decisions that come with handling valuable, sensitive data.
I was born and raised in London. I lived, studied and worked abroad, then in 2021 returned once more to the mighty golden metropolis on the Thames, where I now live with my fiancée. I read history & sci-fi and love the shows of Vince Gilligan. I avoid social media, though recently found myself occasionally doom-scrolling LinkedIn. I’m into hiking, dance, politics, sauna, food, technology, fitness and (of course…) personal health.
I’d love to make this service accessible to many more people over time, perhaps collaborating with the NHS. But for now I’m committed to embracing the detail of the challenge, by working with one person at a time. Drop me a line if you’d like to know more.
